MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) will join other countries of the world in observing the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, which falls on June 26 every year. The event seeks to underscore the importance of intensifying efforts to address serious issues that threaten the security of societies and the health and stability of individuals.
This year, emphasis will be laid on qualitative shifts in drug trafficking and patterns of drug abuse amid the emergence of new substances and the exploitation of modern technologies and social media in promoting narcotics. Combating action includes holding public awareness programmes and expanding the scope of international cooperation to minimise the impact of this phenomenon.
As part of the programme, the ROP will organise a sports event at Al Mouj Walk in the Wilayat of Al Seeb on June 27, 2026, from 5 to 9 pm. The event will be attended by various segments of society.
On June 28, 2026, the Directorate-General for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances will also organise an exhibition at Muscat Mall in the Wilayat of Al Seeb. The exhibition features the security roles that the Directorate-General undertakes when dealing with the abuse of drugs and psychotropic substances. - ONA
